Start with condition
Clean, complete, usable furniture may have donation or resale value. Furniture with stains, odors, broken frames, missing parts, pest exposure, or major wear is less likely to be accepted.
Check acceptance rules before moving anything. Organizations and buyers may have size, condition, building, or pickup limitations.

- Ask about pickup rather than assuming it is offered
Compare time and certainty
Selling can produce value, but it may take messages, appointments, and no-shows. Donation can be worthwhile, but pickup schedules and acceptance rules may not match a move-out deadline.
Removal is usually the most direct option when the item is damaged, timing is tight, or you cannot move it safely.
- How soon must the item leave?
- Can you safely move it to a pickup point?
- Will your building allow another appointment?
- What happens if a buyer or charity declines it?
Use a mixed plan for several items
For a full room or apartment, separate the best donation candidates first and set a firm decision deadline. Everything not accepted by that date can be included in a removal estimate.
Mark each group clearly so the wrong items are not taken.
